Rhodochrosite Cabochon

Rhodochrosite is a manganese mineral and lower grade material is used for manufacture of stainless steel.  Pure rhodochrosite is a deep red translucent gem that is usually faceted.

The cabochon measures 27 x 16 x 6.2 mm.  It has a girdle height approx. 2.3 mm and is sloped at 5 degrees for ease in setting.  The back is also polished.
