Dumortierite Cabochon

Dumortierite is aluminum boro-silicate mineral that was first discovered in France in the 1880's but is found in many places around the world.  It is primarily used in the manufacturing of high grade porcelain.

The cabochon measures 38 x 24 x 6.1 mm.  It has a girdle height approx. 2.6 mm and is sloped at 5 degrees for ease in setting.  The back is also polished.
