Unknown Cabochon

We've never been able to ID this piece and don't even have a guess.

The cabochon measures 46 x 21 x 7.4 mm.  It has a girdle height approx. 3.2 mm and is sloped at 5 degrees for ease in setting.  The back is also polished.
