Mariposite Cabochon

Mariposite is named for the town where it was first found in California.  The green is chromium rich mica while the whitish area is quartz.  It can also have gold, enough that the material is mined for it.

The cabochon measures 39 x 39 x 6.5 mm.  It has a girdle height approx. 2.5 mm and is sloped at 5 degrees for ease in setting.  The back is also polished.
